A rough second quarter and poor free throw shooting cost the Eagles a chance at victory Monday night, falling 34-22 to Manistee Catholic Central in West Michigan D League action.

“The effort was there tonight,” said head coach Matt LaGrow. “And the kids worked and fought right to the final buzzer, but it just wasn’t enough.”

The Eagles trailed 7-6 after one, but struggled to find the basket in the second quarter, getting outscored 11-0 in the period.
“We have really been struggling to put the ball in the basket lately, and tonight was no exception,” LaGrow said.

The Eagles cut the deficit to 27-18 going into the fourth, but couldn’t muster enough offense to make the comeback.
Marion shot 11 for 59 from the field, going 0-14 from the free-throw line.

“The second quarter is where we really let the game get away from us,” LaGrow said. “Other than that, it was a tight game throughout.”

Isabelle Bontekoe led the Eagles with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Tashawa Switalski, Aspen LaGrow, and Lexi Salisbury added 4 apiece. Stella Henderson chipped in with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Eagles will look to get back on track when they host Pentwater on Friday.
