REED CITY — The Osceola County Board of Commissioners voted at its meeting last week to approve the contract with a building official with compensation set at 55 percent of the building permit fee for the current contract term and $60 per inspection for building permits issued prior to 2019 with the inspection fee retroactive to Jan. 1, 2019.

“It will be for six months and that’s all we’ll be offering until we see how it goes,” county commission chairman Jack Nehmer, of Marion, said. “Then we’ll move on from there. He wanted some extra compensation instead of the regular 50 percent. He has some building permits he has to take care of that were already issued before he came on board. We agreed on the 55 percent and we felt that was fair.”

The board approved the lease agreement for the Ricoh copier in the county coordinator’s office.

“It was cheaper to lease and the maintenance and everything else is on them,” Nehmer said. “The one we’re replacing is six to seven years ago. It reached the point it’s so costly, it made more sense to lease it and go that way.”

The board approved the appointment of an indigent defense officer, Karen Moore.
