MARION — Luke D. Houlton, manager of the Osceola County Road Commission, has announced seasonal weight and speed restrictions will be lifted from all Osceola County roads effective 7 a.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, Houlton discussed the various summer road projects his department is planning for the summer.

Seasonal load restriction signs are put away for another for now with the lifting of frost laws as of 7am Monday.

“There are still a few projects to confirm, but this is pretty close to what we expect to complete this summer,” Houlton said. “I don’t have our historic statistics, but I believe this will be the largest road improvement plan ever, at least the last 15 years. We would not be able to do this amount of work without the cooperation of our townships and the 2015 statewide transportation funding increase.

“We will also expect to have a $120,000 pavement crack seal program and will be doing our customary countywide dust control program, which is budgeted at about $170,000. In addition, Burdell, Rose Lake and Sherman Townships have committed to providing a second application in their township later in the summer at a cost of $35,000.”

Figures provide by Houlton indicated $5.75 million will be spent on Osceola County road projects with around $1.6 million of that coming from the townships.

“In addition, we will also be doing our customary road grading, patching, mowing, etc.,” Houlton said. “It will be a very busy summer for us, but we have a dedicated crew and think we will be able to get it all done.”
