The Marion baseball team wasn’t able to get on the winning side of things Tuesday, as it dropped both of its games at Mesick. The Eagles came up short by scores of 13-12 and 10-0.

In a wild game one, Marion trailed 9-4 after five innings, but it got rolling in the sixth.

Billy Jenema hit a two run double to pull within 9-6 and Riley Moggo followed with a three run homer to knot things up at 9-9. Ryder Hall finished off the high-scoring inning with a three run blast of his own, giving the Eagles a 12-9 edge entering the bottom of the sixth.

It wasn’t meant to be however, as Marion gave up four unearned runs in the frame to allow Mesick to escape with the win.

In game two had Alex Sutten get two hits with Keegan Baldwin, Jenema and Chase Seeley getting one hit apiece.

On Saturday the Eagles played in the Forest Area Invitational. Marion won its opening round game 9-8 against Onekama but lost to Suttons Bay in the championship, 7-1.

In the opener, Seeley earned the win by tossing the first four and two-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Brandon Stewart tossed the final inning to earn the save.

Stewart led the offense with three hits, Sutton and Seeley had two hits apiece, with Ty Baker and Jenema adding one hit each.

“We played really well and finally hit the ball,” Grundy said. “I was really happy with Seeley in the game, he had great control.”

Thomas Jenema took the loss, despite throwing well.

“We pulled Thomas due to his pitch count, the game was 3-1 at that time and we were playing well,” Grundy said. “We got in trouble in the fifth inning with a walk and a couple errors and gave up four runs. Overall, I was happy with the day, we just need to put it all together for six innings.”
Marion heads to Baldwin today (Friday) and serves as hosts to Big Rapids Crossroads on Monday.
