McBain had the big upper-hand in the opener. Not so much in the night-cap. The Ramblers played at Lake City in a pair of Highland Conference battles Tuesday night, winning game one handily 14-2 while coming up short in the second 4-2.

“The sun was out and the temperature was above 60 for the first time this year,” head coach Doug Smith said. “In game one it was us all the way while in game two it was a solid pitchers dual.

Getting the game one win was Ayden Kanouse, as he gave up two hits while striking out three and walking two.

Mason Heuker had three hits and five RBI to do the damage on offense.
Skylar Miller took the setback for Lake City, striking out four.

Devin Morris suffered the game two loss, while Lake City’s Hunter Bisballe got the win, striking out four.

On Saturday, playing in the Roscommon Wood Bat Invitational the Ramblers had an 0-2 day. McBain fell to Rudyard 8-3 and came up short to Roscommon 6-5.

Drew Boven took the loss in game one, with Kanouse getting two hits to lead the offense. The Ramblers outhit Rudyard six-to-five.

Game two saw McBain get an 11-to-four hitting edge, but still came up short as the Rambler pitching staff collectively walked eight batters and hit another.

“We had the hitting edge but the free passes and two huge errors were too much to overcome,” Smith said.

Heuker had three hits to lead the offense and Trevor Bode had two. Levi Ford took the setback pitching.

McBain (9-18 overall) heads to the Reed City Invitational on Saturday, plays at Evart on Tuesday and hosts Harrison on Wednesday.
