LAKE CITY — It’s budget time at Missaukee County.

Administrator Precia Garland reviewed the fiscal year 2020 recommended budgets at the county’s finance committee meeting on June 6.

Garland reviewed the major assumptions and highlighted some areas within the funds. The total projected amount to be appropriated from fund balance is $89,496 which includes $26,000 as an extra pension payment. Recommended budgets were distributed to department heads for their review.

Department heads with concerns regarding the recommended budgets will be able to discuss those concerns at the July Finance Committee meeting, she said.

At the commission meeting on Tuesday, Garland went over the process of creating a Land Bank Authority (LBA) and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA), and how it would benefit Missaukee County.

Lisa Leedy of Alliance for Economic Success, provided more information on Land Bank Authority and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

Michelle Thompson, Benzie County Treasurer, and Lori Leuderman, Osceola County Treasurer, discussed their own county’s Land Bank Authority.

The county board reviewed information on how Brownfield Redevelopment Authorities work. It was mentioned BRAs are used to redevelop commercial properties.
