BIG RAPIDS — Marion’s summer high school softball team split a doubleheader at Big Rapids on Wednesday in Local Area Teams (LAT) League action.

Marion won 21-9 in the first game. Big Rapids won the second game 12-4.
“We’ve got a lot of young players,” Big Rapids coach Bill Squires said. “We had a lot of unforced errors in that game and didn’t hit the ball well. It took them a game to get everything around. We hadn’t played in a couple of weeks. Tonight was our first games back. By the second game, we started coming around and hit the ball well.”

Ryan Raymond is coaching Marion. JC Hoffmann had a strong pitching performance for Marion.

“Our first game, we played really good,” Marion player Nicolette Maddox. “We didn’t have the energy going into the second game.”

Another Marion player, Alyssa Thompson, said playing summer ball is important. Marion had 11 players at Wednesday’s twinbill.

LAT league games are every Wednesday. Marion plays at Reed City next Wednesday and at Tri County on July 24.
