Osceola County sheriff Justin Halladay is ready to make the move to being director of the Commission on Aging.

The county commission approved the appointment last week and Halladay is scheduled to make the move within the next month.

“I applied for the COA position because I felt it was the right decision at this point in my life,” he said. “A decision like this isn’t made overnight. It has been coming for awhile I believe. I’ve had a great and long career in law enforcement that I’m proud of, but I’ve reached a new chapter in my life. This position came available and I think it will be a great fit. I can continue to serve the public of Osceola County.

“It will be a challenge moving from a career in law enforcement but I’m confident my experience in public service, management and with my education, it will be successful with getting to know a new staff and them getting to know me. These are challenges that I’m excited for.”

Halladay has been at the Osceola County Sheriffs office in varying capacities as deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Undersheriff and sheriff for 23 years. He worked a short time at the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office.

‘It’s easier to think of the things that I won’t miss, but mostly I will remember all the times I’ve been blessed being able to make a difference in someone’s life,” he said. “The small things that get forgotten with the business of each day. Those things will be what I miss. Also the people I’ve worked with for many years. They are incredible and very professional and I’m going to miss seeing them every day. That is one of the benefits of the new position that I’m not far away.“I feel thankful for all the support I’ve received from the public and the sheriff’s office all these years. Law enforcement has been my life for over half of it and I’m very proud of the career I’ve made and my accomplishments. I’m also thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the community at the COA Director and look forward to more accomplishments for me and the program.”
