Lady Eagles runner-up at Cross Country Invite

The Marion cross country teams opened up their seasons at the McBain Northern Michigan Christian Invitational on Friday, Aug. 23. The boys team didn’t have enough for a team score while the girls were able to come in second place.

The boys had three runners, led by Aidan Timko with an 11th place finish and time of 22:12, Eric Williams finished 13th by clocking a 23:25 and Jordan Wood crossed the line in 15th in a time of 23:47.

“They didn’t complete a full team of five but did run well for the first meet of the season and for most, their first 5k ever,” head coach Jason Keeler said. “The guys are pretty excited with their times and are looking forward to continued improvement over the course of the season.”

The girls took second place, finishing behind Manton. Alexis Salisbury led the way with an eighth place finish and time of 24:37, Nolah Grundy was 12th at 26:27, Elizabeth Fouch was 16th in a time of 28:19, Andrea Weaver was 17th at 29:57 and Riley Kischnick was 22nd in a time of 31:06.

Marion hosts the Steeplechase on Sept. 7.

Host NMC had its boys team take second. They were led by Jonas Lanser taking third, running a time of 18:43. Garrett Langton and Bobby Vennema were seventh and eight in times of 20:10 and 20:49, Joshua Byard was 12th at 22:18 and Jacob Booher was 16th at 24:09.

The Lady Comets had just three runners but were led by Makayla Hall who was sixth at 23:11, Kate Krick was 10th at 25:28 and in 13th was Ally Krick at 26:56.
