August 8, 2019

The Mill Pond Project was a big Old Fashioned Days winner. Sales from kayak raffle tickets, t-shirts, the golf challenge and generous donations added more than $6,000 to the pond restoration fund.

Winners of two complete kayak packages, raffled by the Pond Project and Marion Eagles Aerie #4087, were Angela Ashby and Don Peterson, both of Marion.

Participants in the Golf Challenge at the pond brought $863 to the pot and the Eagles Old Fashioned Golf Scramble donated $100. A most generous $500 was added by Marion High alum at the school reunion. Mill Pond “Best little town by a dam site” t-shirts were a hot item and sales topped $1,800. Shirts are still available in most sizes and colors at $20 each.

This week equipment is in place and work on phase one of the Mill Pond Project will begin. This phase replaces the current old and undersized spillway with one complying with DNR requirements and will be complete by fall.
