The McBain volleyball team slipped up in the second set of its home Highland Conference game with Evart on Tues- day. The Lady Ramblers regrouped from there how- ever, dominating the rest of the way and claiming a four sets victory, 25-21, 22-25, 25-6 and 25-11.

“Overall, I thought we started off very sluggish and we were not moving well, which resulted in multiple hitting and pass- ing errors,” head coach Shawn Murphy said.

“As we slowly got into a groove, we started playing much better and were able to get some runs on Evart. I give them credit, they really played scrappy defense and were able to catch us off guard quite a few times early in the match. I’m hoping that we come out with much more intensity and quickness when we play at Roscommon.”

With a team high 17 kills was Emma Schierbeek, who also had nine digs and five aces. Alyssa Bode had six kills and two blocks and Leah Neverth had five kills, two aces, 15 assists and eight digs.

On Thursday, Sept. 19 the Ramblers hosted a league tri-match with Manton and McBain Northern Michigan Christian. McBain fell to Manton 25-16, 22-25 and 15-13 and defeated NMC 25-21 and 25-22. Manton also topped NMC 25-12 and 25-13 .

“Tonight was pretty frustrating because we never really got into a rhythm,” Murphy said. “I thought we were able to give a good run with Manton, but just were not able to capitalize when we needed to. That seems to be our biggest struggle right now is getting those key points when the pressure is on. I give credit to NMC, they fought hard for every point and really played hard.”

Schierbeek led the Ramblers with 22 kills, 14 digs and four aces and Neverth had 11 kills, 17 assists, five aces and 11 digs.

McBain (11-12 over all, 4-5 Highland) was at Roscommon on Thursday, hosts McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Tuesday and is at the Kalkaska Invitational on Oct. 5.

“I am hoping that as we push in to the second half of conference play, we will be continuing to push through those mental let downs and begin to play with more confidence,” Murphy said.
