LAKE CITY — Missaukee County Board of Commissioners, at their finance committee meeting on Oct. 10, discussed safety at the courthouse.

County administrator Precia Garland reviewed a recommendation from the Safety Committee from its last meeting in September, to reduce access to the Courthouse building to a single, main entrance for public access.

Garland said the county board will be requested to authorize the Buildings and Grounds Committee to pursue options to create a single main entrance for public access to the courthouse building.

Garland disclosed the sole bid that was received from for snow removal services from R.K. Custom Services, for a three-year contract. The committee will recommend to the full board this be approved.

Garland explained the county has been utilizing services of Baird, Cotter & Bishop for municipal accounting assistance and audit preparation. She added partner Corinna Hervey, CPA left the firm and is now with H&S Companies. Garland pointed out Hervey’s expertise in municipal accounting, and requested the board approve use of Ms. Hervey’s assistance at a rate of $180 per hour (previously paid $175 per hour with BCB), as an as-needed basis only, with no retainer.

The BCB would still take care of routine accounting questions and audit preparation Garland said.
