Marion Buck Pole Ready for Opening Day

With opening day of firearms season set for Friday, the Marion Buck Pole should be an exciting place to be this weekend. With over $5500 in prizes – including two rifles and a safe – everyone who puts a buck on the pole should take home a prize. Prizes include those for the first buck brought in, the first youth boy/girl, and the first woman to bring in a buck.

Located at the VFW Post on Main Street, the Buck Pole will offer special drawings for those who enter a buck before noon on Friday, with another drawing on Friday evening. Bucks can be entered on the pole until 6 pm on Saturday, when they will be scored, with the highest scoring buck receiving a free shoulder mount.

After receiving 69 entries in 2017, followed by 61 entries last year, event organizer Jessi Miller hopes 2019 numbers will be even better. And with each passing year, the bucks keep getting bigger.

“The antler point restrictions have definitely had a big impact, at least in Osceola County,” Miller said.

The Buck Pole is free to enter, and everyone who tags a buck is encouraged to participate. There will be concessions and a 50/50 drawing throughout Friday and Saturday, with the final raffle to be held on Saturday at 6:30 pm in the basement of the VFW.
