MARION — A 25-year-old Chase man has been charged with counts of felony damage to property; weapons, firing reckless felony; motor vehicle theft and felonious assault.

Sheriff Ed Williams reported on Dec 1, deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in the area of 220th Avenue near 10-Mile Road, Lincoln Township where he said it was reported a subject became combative after a family attempted to have an intervention for drug use.

The subject was recklessly discharging an AR-15 at a family members pickup, Williams said.

“The subject continued to discharge the firearm and then fled on a stolen ATV just prior to deputies arrival,” he said in a statement. “Osceola County Deputies tracked the subject from the home and were assisted by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies, Mecosta County Sheriff’s deputies, Newaygo County Sheriff’s deputies, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resource Enforcement Division, Reed City police officers and the Osceola County EMS.”

Williams said the subject, Trevor Joseph Smith, 25, of Chase, was located at a residence in Lake County and taken into custody without incident.

“Illegal drugs are thought to be a factor in this incident,” Williams said in his statement. “On Wednesday, Smith was arraigned in the 77th District Court on the charges of felony damage to property; weapons, firing reckless felony; motor vehicle theft and felonious assault.

His bond was set at $75,000 and he is currently lodged in the Osceola County Jail.
