Deputies Investigate Grader Train Accident

MARION — The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department on Monday, at 11:21 a.m. investigated a grader-train accident locally.

Meceola Central Dispatch received a call-in reference to a county road grader being hit by a train on 17 Mile Road and Ashland Drive in Middle Branch Township,” sheriff Ed Williams said in a statement. “Responding deputies found that an Osceola County road grader had been struck by a South Bound Great Lakes Central Train that had left Cadillac headed to Clare.

“The road grader, being operated by Derik Kanouse, reportedly stalled in the road and while the driver was attempting to get it restarted and moved, it was hit by the train in the front end of the grader and spun around away from the tracks. Both the train and the grader sustained damage to the front of the respective vehicles. The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.”
