Mill Pond Beginnings Phase 2 with Boardwalk

December 2, 2019

By Julie Traynor

With Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season upon us, and Shop Small weekend soon to come, the Marion Mill Pond Project is announcing its Build-a-Boardwalk Project. Its goal is to provide a boardwalk along the south shore of the pond, from the dam and new spillway, west toward the Lake and Water Streets corner. The folks at the Marion Mill Pond Project would like to suggest you consider a Buy-a-Board gift this Christmas.

Purchase a 4’ or 8’ length of weather treated decking board for the walk, $65 and $125 respectively, and the name or names and a date or event of your choice will be routed into the board, forever commemorated on the Marion Mill Pond Boardwalk.

Now is the perfect time Buy-a-Board. The Boardwalk does not have to wait for other Phases to be completed and can begin as soon as weather permits. Marionites may purchase a board this season, and walk on it in the spring. Materials will be purchased and lettering work done locally. This will give Marionites and visitors a safe and sure platform on which to fish, walk and enjoy the Pond. The more boards sold, the longer the boardwalk.

The summer’s planned Phase 2 pond dredging could yield some interesting artifacts, or at the very least, some monumental piles of weeds and sludge. The perfect place to observe the whole process is safely from a boardwalk. For more details and to Buy-a-Board, please give call Connie at the Marion Village Hall, 231-743-6401 will get you there.
