A late run by Pentwater spoiled what had looked to be a promising night for the Marion boys basketball team. The Eagles had seemingly led the West Michigan ‘D’ League game the entire way Tuesday night, but ended up dropping the home contest 49-42.

The Eagles led 19-18 at the half and held a 28-20 advantage midway through the third, but that slipped away as Pentwater pulled to within three entering the fourth and jumped ahead in the final stanza.

“We got into serious foul trouble in the first half and managed to go into halftime leading,” head coach Steve Cooper said. “Pentwater went on a run (in the third) and from there they were able to capitalize on 10 fourth quarter turnovers.”

Alex Sutten led the Eagles with 14 points, Brandon Stewart was able to put in 11 and Garrett Bell contributed seven points and chased down 10 rebounds.

Marion (1-3 overall, 1-3 WMD) was at Manistee Catholic Central on Thursday, hosts Brethren on Tuesday and is at Mason County Eastern on Thursday.
