MARION — The village of Marion will be having its first meeting of the new year on Monday, and council president Don Gillmore said the board will continue to work on its budget.

The new budget starts the first of March.

“That’s pretty much what we’ll be spending our time on,” Gillmore said.

Looking ahead to 2020, “we’ve got our flood control project done which is an important part,” he said. “We’re still in pretty good shape. We’ll start with new a plan and new permits for another phase. We’re not sure what that will be yet.”

Gillmore also noted at the start of this week the village has been able to avoid any major weather problems.

“Last year at this time, we were missing school,” he said on Monday. “We have some snow on the ground but it’s just a couple of inches. We haven’t used hardly any of our winter salt. We’re in good shape.”

The village DPW has two employees, plus another extra person for snow removal, Gillmore said.
